Splice
Theme: Biotech & Genetics
Splice is a futuristic thriller about using human DNA. Scientists are essentially in an arms race to use human DNA before anyone else, and since the government would be all over them for cloning a human being because that is considered inhumane, they clone something similar to a human using human DNA without actually cloning a person. This thing grows faster than either scientist expected and is much stronger too. Because they're afraid for her, they hide her from the outside world, and the woman scientist becomes motherly towards it, while the man keeps trying to get ride of her. This creature ages fast, and they don't quite understand her. She becomes a danger and becomes murderous and angry. Ultimately, this movie teaches us that some things are not to be messed with because it's supposed to be up to nature to decide certain things, and this is one of them. We should not be cloning because of the repercussions that no one else seems to think about.
Metropolis
Theme: Inequality
Metropolis is a silent film, that in my opinion really started the whole futuristic movie movement. Many movies are based off of the themes and plots seen in this movie, and it's a classic. The future portrayed in this movie is that of a divided civilization. There are the thinkers, and then there are the workers. The thinkers are actual people, whereas the workers are robots creted with only one purpose in mind. The thinkers never cross over into the others world, and they are blissfully ignorant of how the other half lives. Some man decides to see how the workers live and is astonished and shocked as to what he sees. The working conditions are awful and people are being hurt and killed left and right but since they are just workers no one seems to care. They're not given the same rights as the thinkers and they aren't treated with any respect. The end of the world is here, and the town is being flooded and the only people being saved are the thinkers and the workers are kept in prisons and cages and left to die. There is rebellion and fighting and the workers will do anything to live. This movie reinforces the fact that humans generally don't respect or care about anything "beneath" them, and they will always put themselves first. Their general cruelty and disrespect will eventually lead to their downfall as a civilization.
Gamer
Theme: Government
Gamer is a high paced thriller in which the government uses and abuses their citizens. They justify this by saying that since they're death row inmates, they're destined to die regardless but that doesn't give them the right to make them fight basically to the death, and they aren't even in control of their own bodies at that. Some people try to escape, and others die on purpose. It takes a total of 30 games in order to be released and no one thus far has been able to do it. It's cruel, and a disgusting misuse of power on the governments part. These peoples lives aren't games or toys and it's unfair to give them false hope or they should at least be given the option to play or not. This movie shows a future where the government doesn't care about us, it only cares about themselves and they don't care about injustices because they aren't directly affected by it.
Idiocracy
Theme: Government & Technology
Idiocracy is a satirical comedy that pokes fun at the human civilizations increasingly dependent use of technology, and the stupidity that is our government. Your "Average Joe" is put into a time capsule and frozen and he's supposed to be waken up one year later. Because of funding and the governments negligence he was awaken five hundred years later and was awoken to a whole new world. People's reliance on technology had them not use their brains, and eventually people became stupid to the point that this average man was dubbed the smartest man in the world. He was able to escape from prison and outsmart nearly everyone and then he was hired by the president. The government wasn't able to protect their country and everything was rapidly dying because instead of watering plants with water, they kept using this sponsored soda. The people were lazy, stupid and over weight and generally didn't understand or care about what was going on around them. The justice system was corrupt and people did what they pleased. This movie shows us what can happen if we rely too much on technology; our brains will get weaker and weaker until intelligence is evolutionarily breed out. And our government will sit back and just let this happen and not even try to intervene or preserve the human brain, so it is essentially up to us to save ourselves.
The Seven Seals of God
The Seven Seals Prophecy
Theme: Religion
For years, people have predicted the end of the world and Jesus's second and even third coming. According to the Seven Seals Prophecy, as a result of a global crisis, everyone will be Satanic and everyone will have a satanic symbol on their hand and the Anti-Christ will rule the world for seven years, and that every Christian will be taken from this world by Jesus and go to heaven. They also talk about the seven plagues that will be descended upon us, "The following happen towards the end of the tribulation: 1. A severe sore comes upon people, with the mark of the Antichrist needed to buy or sell. 2. The sea becomes as blood and every living creature in the sea dies. 3. Rivers and springs become blood. 4. The sun scorches people. 5. There is darkness in the Antichrist's kingdom and people gnawed their tongues due to their pain. They blaspheme God and do not repent. 6. The Euphrates River dries up and paves a way for the kings of the east, which gather, along with others from the whole world, for the battle of Armageddon. 7. The greatest earthquake ever causes all the islands and mountains to disappear, and Jerusalem to be split into three parts. (Rev 16). " It sound awful, and it sounds unrealistic that the "creator" and "father" of everyone would want to do this to their own child, but for whatever reason this is the predicted way that the world will end. They foretell plagues, war and false proclamations. These prophecies seem ludicrous, and almost unreal. They say that the bible says that all of these things will happen, however it's open to interpretation. If the future is as bleak as this prophecy sounds, then the future is pointless. The anti-christ will rule and if you don't rebuke him, then you will mixed in with all of his chaos, but if you just so happen to choose what's behind door number two, Jesus will fly down from heaven and bring you back up so you can watch the rest of the world suffer I suppose.

The Happening
Theme: Environment
The Happening is a classic M. Night Shamalya movie with an interesting twist. People all over the country are committing suicide at abnormally increasing rates. People want answers and the government can't give it to them so there's anger, rioting and rebelling. People thought it was an air borne attack, and they were looking to place blame. They searched every where for an answer but never even considered that their world was doing this to them. The plants on planet Earth were releasing a deadly toxin that they all have, and it was driving the people to kill themselves. We abused the Earth and the plants for so long, they finally fought back. The plants were killing off the people and the environment was attacking us, and there was nothing humans in general could do about it. This movie teaches us about respect. People so often disrespect anyone and anything that aren't like them, and in so many futuristic movies we seal our own fate because of it.

Jurassic Park
Theme: Government
In Jurassic Park 3: The Lost World, the government tries their hardest to lie to the people and hide the lost world. Jurassic is referring to the Jurassic period of dinosaurs millions of years ago.In this movie, a family vacationing stumbles upon a baby dinosaur and the authorities are called. The family is brushed off by the government and sent off the island then the they began to panic because this world they worked so hard to hide was found by an eight year old girl playing on an island. Soon scientists and government officials move onto the quarantined island where everything is peaceful until the Tyrannosaurus Rex shows up and causes some chaos. People try to leave the island and they call for back up, but no one shows up so it's up to them to survive. This movie portrays a future where our government hides vital information from us. They don't care about our safety, but of their image and they will do anything to protect that. Whether it's Area 51, or the Lost Island our government will lie to us and hopefully it won't end world civilization.

Star Trek
Theme: Technology
Star Trek, whether it's the original movies. the remake or the T.V shows are all absolutely brilliant. Star Trek relies heavily on technology to save the world. The future here is portrayed as being helped by technology and humanity is saved because of it time and time again as opposed to many other movies that portray technology and human's hungry nature as being a bad thing but in Star Trek it's what protects us. The protagonist puts his life on the line to save the world more than once and he faces aliens time and time again. This shows us that technology isn't always a bad thing and there are people left in this world who are still good in their hearts. Everyone has the potential to be a hero.
Planet of the Apes
Theme: Inequality
Planet of the Ape's is a futuristic movie with a bit of a twist on it. Usually, when people make movies about the future there are aliens, nuclear warfare, or zombies but in Planet of the Ape's it's none of that. The back round of the story is that humans needed a subject to test an Alzheimer's drug on and selected apes. One monkey was chosen but was later killed but she left behind a baby, who became increasingly smarter. Since he was smart he saw how people treated monkeys and became increasing outraged until he did something about it. Flash forward a few decades and apes rule the world. They treat humans the way they were treated. Human's are prisoners on their own planet, and there's nothing they can do about it because the apes are smarter than them and are much stronger than they are. These humans are shot if they're caught out side of their cages and they're essentially slaves to the monkey race. They're treated unfairly, have no rights and are brutalized similar to the way humans used to treat them. These movie warns us about our superiority complex and our growing egos. It's telling us that there's nothing wrong with treating some other species with respect because at any moment evolution could flip the tables on us and we could be in a situation where we're powerless and abused and treated unequally.

I Am Legend
Theme: biotech/genetics
I Am Legend is a powerful movie that focuses on the repercussions of tampering with biology, genetics, and things we generally shouldn't meddle in. Will Smith plays Robert Neville, one of the last people on the planet. The earth is overrun with zombies because of a cancer cure all shot that was distributed to nearly everyone. It was supposed to fully cure cancer, and it was supposed to prevent it from occurring. Scientists were so sure of this drug that they hardly conducted long term clinical trails and didn't think out the consequences. The drug didn't agree with most of the populations DNA, and humans turned into cannibalistic, mindless savages who hunted each other until there was only one person left in NYC, and a few scattered globally. People put too much trust in science, and do things that they shouldn't. A person shouldn't be allowed to meddle with diseases, life span, or fertility because it will most likely come back to bite you like in this movie. This movie reminds me of the Gardisil shot. It's a shot that's meant to prevent types of cancer in young women, however the company who made it once had a drug out that killed hundreds of people and there are not enough clinical trails to prove this safe either. If we keep trying to cure things, eventually our DNA will work against it and we will have a negative reaction or mutation towards it. This movie tells people to slow down. We can't control everything, and we can't play god and we shouldn't even try. I believe it tells us that the human society rushes things, and if we just wait something out we can prevent a zombie apocalypse and the end of the world.
